All of our garments are ethically made from wool that predominantly comes from our own rare breed Wensleydale and Shetland sheep, most of which have been saved from slaughter. MenswearIzzy Lane is proud to introduce it's new menswear collection |
Our ethical fashion range includes knitwear, handknitted by our network of over 100 knitters across the Dales, coats and jackets manufactured in Wales and skirts manufactured in the Lake District.
We offer an optional 'Made to Measure' service for the skirts which are made from super-fine fleece of the rare and primitive Shetland sheep. Our handbags are lined with Izzy Lane cloth and our shoes are approved by the Vegetarian Society.
Very little is now left of our textile industry and we were determined that our fashion should be entirely produced in Britain.
We are using the last remaining of 51 spinners in Calderdale, one of the last dye-houses in Bradford, the heart of the textile industry during the industrial revolution, and the last mother-of -pearl button maker in Britain to produce our ethical fashion range.
The cloth is woven by an ancient woollen mill in Selkirk whose looms have been running for over 100 years.
"Dealing with the ethical side is a challenge but I had an agenda and the ethical side and in particular the animal welfare and rescue was at its core and was not negotiable. Also being ‘made in Britain’ was not negotiable."

New RE:Designer of the Year and Estethica Prize went to Izzy Lane, the passionate knitwear designer from North Yorkshire, who uses the wool from rescued Wensleydale and Shetland sheep who would otherwise have been sent to slaughter. She uses the last of 51 worsted spinners and one of the last dyers in the Bradford area and her cloth is woven at an ancient mill in Selkirk using Victorian machinery which has been in use for more than a century.
